I take little bits from several schools of thought and blend them all together to create my own approach to home culinary nutrition.

What will you find in this blog?
I currently identify most with Mark Sisson’s Primal Blueprint (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/). I avoid yeast due to allergy. I avoid gluten, grains, dairy, sugar and many other things, yet these can all be found in our home. We eat at restaurants, avoid fast food chains (rarely do we “drive thru”), and prefer locally grown foods and food co-ops. In short, we eat it all. I hope most of all, that we eat it with gratitude.
To Earth who gives to us this food,
To Sun who makes it ripe and good.
Dearest Earth, Dearest Sun,
We will remember what you have done.
Whether you are looking for a hearty homemade meal, a paleo-inspired snack, a probiotic pick-me-up, lunch box ideas, natural foods for children, tricks for feeding picky kids, low-carb, grain-free, yeast-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, or… some good old fashioned splurge of a blow-out treat, I hope you will find something delicious and nourishing to prepare for your family. I will continue to post recipes to this Food category on Hearth & Gnome. Please, enjoy my food blog.
Oh, and I would love to field your questions on food. No question too small or big, and I’ll do my best to provide you with some useful information. Just post a comment!
Cheers!
Rachel
Why do I call it Ancestral-Hybrid? I noticed Paleo Magazine referring to the general category as “Ancestral” and it seems to fit, for anyone who is looking to the diets of early humans. I look to the ancestral diets as a guideline, but I hybrid that knowledge with what reality brings to us in our modern lifestyle. I often think of the “hybrid” part as the rubber meeting the road! Isn’t that what most of us do, and what is most gentle to our selves as we navigate modern life? After all, Mark Sisson defines the Primal Blueprint as a a hybrid [of paleo and modern dietary and lifestyle choices]. Yet, what I write about on this blog is like “informed choice” about the next meal… applying many different schools of thought to the individual situation–to take the next conscious step from where a person is in this moment.
Have a Dilemma or a Question? I love to brainstorm about food, recipes, and feeding families. I hope this blog is a platform for discussion. I considered making it a message board, but it is what it is. Let’s talk!
